Coffee Scale
A coffee scale is the most useful accessory for home coffee brewing amongst all accessory options, regardless of brewing method.
The final results in a brewed cup of coffee depend on the ratio of coffee to brew water by weight. If you want to make consistently good coffee day after day, then a coffee scale is a must have accessory.
In addition, a good coffee scale is a must-have for the pour-over brew method. When coffee is brewed this way, three variables affect the taste of resulting cup of coffee:
1. Grind size of coffee
2. Contact time with water
3. The amount of coffee grounds
Unfortunately they are not independent of each other, which is why precise measurement of coffee, time and water is so useful.
How is a coffee scale different from a kitchen scale? Three major differences:
1. No 60 second auto shut off - needed for longer brew durations, e.g., in pour-overs.
2. Higher resolution - 0.1 or 0.01gm
3. The immensely useful timer function
