Syphon
The Syphon, also knowns as the vacuum pot, is a very old and exceedingly complex way to make coffee. In the words of James Hoffmann - “It is extremely annoying in many respects and sufficiently frustrating that many people relegate their brewer to a cupboard or a shelf as a display piece.”
Syphon brewer, like many other current day coffee brewing equipment, was invented in Germany in the 1830s and hasn’t changed much since.
"The Syphon brewing process is a pleasing application of physics, and is often likened to a classroom experiment. Unfortunately, it is sufficiently difficult to get right that most people try a couple of times and then give up, which is a shame".
